Check the Address Before You Approve a Swap

Before you approve a swap, check that the recipient address belongs to the destination chain and can receive the asset in the form the swap will send. A correct-looking address can still point to the wrong network, a deposit account requiring a memo, or a wallet that cannot use the asset representation you selected. Compare the address in the swap interface with the one copied from your destination wallet or account, then verify the final transaction details before signing. Treat the quoted output and the recipient as one decision: both must match what you intend to receive.

How do you check that an address is on the right chain?

Confirm the network in the recipient app first, then check the network selected for the swap’s output. Address formats can overlap across chains, so a valid-looking string alone does not prove that funds will arrive where you expect. The token ticker is not enough either: the same asset name may refer to a native asset or a token issued on another chain. If the route uses THORSwap, read this explanation of THORSwap native or wrapped output before choosing, since the output form affects what the destination receives.

What should you verify in the recipient field?

Check the full address, including its beginning and ending characters, against the source you copied it from. Use the wallet’s copy or share function where possible, and avoid retyping an address or trusting a shortened display. Then check whether the destination requires an additional identifier, such as a memo or tag, and enter it in the matching field; an address can be right while the account routing information is missing.

  • Network selected for the output
  • Full recipient address and its checksum or format validation
  • Required memo, tag, or destination identifier
  • Asset form the recipient can receive

What should you check before signing?

Review the swap’s final confirmation screen after entering the recipient, not just the quote shown earlier. Verify the destination chain, address, output asset and amount, plus any memo or tag, because a route or quote can change before submission. If your wallet offers a transaction preview, check that its destination and requested action agree with the swap details; a preview can help spot mismatches, but it cannot prove that the recipient account is yours.

For a new recipient or an unfamiliar route, a small test transaction can confirm that the destination is set up to receive the asset, though fees and minimums may make that impractical. Once you submit, a transaction on the wrong chain or to the wrong account may be difficult or impossible to recover. Before signing, watch the final confirmation for any changed address, network, or output amount.
