Can an app offer XRP Ledger payments without asking you to set up a separate crypto wallet? Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy announced an integration that will let developers add XRPL wallets to their apps, according to The Block’s report on the partnership. Those wallets can support transfers in XRP, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the ledger. Privy supplies the wallet infrastructure, while users can still export their private keys or seed phrases.
How will embedded XRPL wallets handle AI payments?
Developers will be able to create wallets and sign transactions through Privy instead of building that infrastructure themselves. The companies say software and AI agents can use app-managed wallets to hold funds and pay for online services through x402, a standard for payments tied to services such as data access. That lets an agent pay for an individual request and receive the service after payment is verified.
The integration does not remove the XRP Ledger’s account activation requirement. CoinDesk reports that Privy’s documentation requires a new XRPL account to receive a minimum reserve of 1 XRP before it can transact, even if it will only send RLUSD. The announcement says the companies plan to add policy controls and tools for covering network fees over time.
What does the 14 million payment count measure?
The XRPL AI Hub dashboard showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants on Wednesday, CoinDesk reported. The dashboard listed cumulative payments of about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD, so the transaction count does not represent an equivalent amount of value transferred. It also does not identify how many distinct users or agents made those payments.
RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele had said the previous week that x402 agent payments exceeded 13 million and made up roughly 25% of ledger activity, according to CoinDesk. That activity estimate and the dashboard’s cumulative count describe different measures, so neither alone establishes how much economic value AI agents are moving. The next milestone to watch is Privy’s planned rollout of policy controls and fee coverage; the announcement gives no delivery date.
