The Sonic blockchain has achieved a transaction finality of 720 milliseconds (ms) during its testnet phase, potentially positioning itself as the fastest blockchain network in terms of finality.
Transaction finality refers to the point at which a transaction is considered irreversible after being added to the blockchain ledger. Sonic has demonstrated a “true” 720-ms finality, surpassing most blockchains that typically require multiple block confirmations for irreversible transactions.
Andre Cronje, the CTO of Sonic Labs and creator of the Fantom Network, highlighted Sonic's impressive 400ms responsiveness and 720ms finality, distinguishing it from other blockchains. If Sonic maintains this performance after its mainnet launch, it could surpass Solana, currently known for its 12.8-second finality.
Sonic aims to attract developers by allocating 90% of the network’s gas fees back to them. The Fantom Foundation has also pledged significant support, including a $120 million allocation to assist developers transitioning from Fantom to Sonic.
The Sonic Foundation, established in May, will oversee governance, manage the network treasury, and support ecosystem development, with a focus on building decentralized applications.
