Metaplanet Inc., a leading Japanese investment firm, has announced its latest acquisition of bitcoin. The firm purchased an additional 107.913 bitcoins, valued at approximately 1 billion yen ($6.9 million), demonstrating its continued optimism towards the largest cryptocurrency.
With this latest purchase, Metaplanet's total bitcoin holdings have now reached 506.745 bitcoins, which is worth about $32.2 million at current market prices. The average price paid for the recent acquisition was around 9.26 million yen ($64,168) per bitcoin.
Bitcoin has experienced a slight decline of 1.27% in the past 24 hours, trading at approximately $63,661. This follows a recent peak above $66,000 last week, according to The Block.
On the stock market, Metaplanet's shares have risen by 4.24% on Tuesday, currently priced around 1,033 yen. The Nikkei 225 index has also shown positive momentum, climbing 1.91% today.
In May, Metaplanet revealed its strategy of adopting bitcoin as a strategic treasury reserve asset, which has led to a buying spree in recent months.
As of now, MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, is the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, owning 252,220 BTC. Following closely is Marathon Digital with 26,200 BTC.
