Jesse Pollak, the development team lead behind the Coinbase-incubated Ethereum Layer 2 network Base, is taking on the role of heading the Coinbase Wallet at the crypto exchange. Pollak announced that Base and Coinbase Wallet share a common goal: to simplify the process for users to connect to web3 applications across the ecosystem.
Pollak expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I’m so excited to work even more closely with the wallet team and to keep leading the Base team." He emphasized that the collaboration will enhance their efforts to achieve their shared vision.
Pollak reiterated that Base will continue to uphold its core values, including decentralization and being accessible to everyone. He noted, "Coinbase Wallet will continue to work across the entire onchain economy, and we’ll start the work of embodying the other Base values in even more ways."
Launched in August 2023, Base is an optimistic rollup that processes transactions off the main Ethereum blockchain, significantly increasing throughput and reducing costs. Recently, Base's total value locked surpassed $2 billion, making it the second-largest optimistic rollup by deposits after Arbitrum.
Initially launched as Toshi in 2017, Coinbase Wallet is a non-custodial crypto wallet that enables users to manage and store their digital assets. Although it started with a focus on the Ethereum ecosystem, it has since expanded to support multiple blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Solana, and BNB Chain.
Pollak confirmed his position on Coinbase’s executive team, stating, "I'm really excited to take on this new mandate and to accelerate our mission of bringing a billion people and a million builders onchain."
