What did Moody’s rate, and why does it matter? On October 7, Moody’s assigned Sky Protocol a B3 issuer rating with a stable outlook, giving institutional allocators another independent assessment of the protocol behind USDS. The Sky Frontier Foundation announcement says it is the first rating Moody’s has issued to a stablecoin protocol.
What does the B3 assessment focus on?
The announcement says Sky Reserves were a central factor in Moody’s assessment. Sky Frontier Foundation says Sky Governance has strengthened its Treasury Management Function and adopted a Stage 2 buyback and reserves framework, under which part of Net Protocol Revenue is retained to build reserves toward a governance-set minimum. The Foundation says reserve growth takes time and remains a priority; it does not publish Moody’s full rationale in the announcement.
What is behind the institutional interest in USDS?
Recent activity around sUSDS, the savings token linked to USDS, gives that interest a concrete marker. The Block reported that Galaxy added $100 million of sUSDS to its corporate treasury and approved it as collateral across its institutional trading business last month. The Block also reported that Sky had received an S&P Global B- rating in August 2025, making it the only stablecoin protocol formally rated by both agencies, according to Sky.
What should you watch after the rating?
The next marker is Sky’s planned roadmap for addressing factors the agencies say could support stronger creditworthiness. The Foundation says Sky Governance and the Foundation are reviewing those factors, with next steps due to be published in the roadmap “in the near future.” Until then, the stated reserve target and the pace of reserve accumulation are the clearest measures to watch.
